Salon Invoice Template
A salon invoice or receipt lists each service separately (cut, colour, treatment) with the stylist who performed it, plus any retail products sold. Keep retail and services on separate lines: in many places they are taxed differently, and booth renters need the split for their own books. Build one free below.

Most salon transactions end at the till and never become a document. The ones that do (bridal parties, corporate bookings, packages paid up front, or a booth renter billing the salon) are exactly the ones where a vague receipt causes problems later. Those are the cases this template is built for.
What goes on a salon invoice
| Line | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Services | Cut, colour, treatment, styling, each priced separately |
| Stylist | Who performed the service, needed for commission and booth rent |
| Retail products | Shampoo, treatments, tools, kept apart from services |
| Add-ons | Toner, deep conditioning, extra length or thickness charges |
| Package / membership credit | Prepaid sessions drawn down, with the balance remaining |
| Gratuity | Its own line, never merged into the service price |
A worked example
A colour and cut appointment with a retail product, paid at the salon:
- Full colour, single process, stylist: R. Chen: $115.00
- Toner: $35.00
- Cut and blow-dry, stylist: R. Chen: $65.00
- Retail: colour-protect shampoo 250ml: $28.00
- Services subtotal $215.00 · retail subtotal $28.00
- Gratuity: $40.00
- Total $283.00 · tax as applicable · paid in full
Services and retail are subtotalled separately. That split matters for tax in many jurisdictions and it is the number a booth renter needs when settling with the salon.
What causes salon billing confusion
- Retail bundled with services. Different tax treatment in many places, and it hides what the client actually spent on products.
- Stylist not named. Commission splits and booth-rent reconciliation both depend on it.
- Gratuity folded into the total. Tips belong to the stylist, not the business. Keep the line visible.
- Package sessions with no remaining balance. If a client prepaid for six blow-dries, show which one this was and how many are left.

Frequently asked questions
Should retail products be separate from services on a salon invoice?
Yes. Many jurisdictions tax retail goods and personal services differently, so combining them makes the tax position unclear. It also matters for booth renters and commission-based stylists, whose share is usually calculated on services rather than product sales.
Do I need to name the stylist on the invoice?
If commission or booth rent is involved, yes. The stylist name is what ties a service to the right person when the salon reconciles at the end of the week, and it is useful for the client too when they rebook.
How should gratuity appear?
As its own line, after the subtotal. Tips are intended for the stylist rather than the business, and merging them into the service price makes both the client’s record and the salon’s books harder to read.
