Free invoice templates
Free invoice templates for 22 trades, plus Word, Excel, Google Docs and PDF versions. Fill one in online and download it. No signup and no watermark.
A free invoice template is a ready made layout you fill in with your details, the client's details and the work done, then send as a PDF. Every template below is editable in the browser and downloads without a signup.
Every template here is a working document rather than a file you download and then fight with. Pick the one that matches what you are billing for, fill it in, and a formatted PDF comes out the other end. Nothing is uploaded to a server and there is no account to create.
Start with a blank invoice
If you just need something in front of a client today, the general template covers most jobs. It has line items, quantities, tax, totals and a payment terms field.
- Free invoice generator, fill in and download
- Standard invoice template
- Blank invoice template
- A filled in invoice example, if you want to see one first
Invoice templates by trade
These are not the same document with a different heading. An electrician bills call out fees and parts. A trucking invoice needs detention time and a fuel surcharge line. A caterer bills per head. Using the version built for your trade means fewer questions coming back from the client, and a clearer record if the price is ever disputed.

What an invoice has to have
An invoice that is missing any of these is the reason a payment sits in someone's queue for an extra three weeks.
- The word Invoice, and a unique invoice number you can refer to later
- Your business name, address and tax number if you have one
- The client's name and address, spelled the way their accounts team has it
- Issue date, and the due date written as a date rather than as Net 30
- A line for each item with quantity, rate and line total
- Subtotal, tax, and the amount due in bold
- How to pay, including bank details or a payment link
If you are unsure what terms to put on it, Net 30 and the other common terms are explained separately.
Receipt templates by type
A receipt confirms money arrived, which is a different job from asking for it. These carry the extra detail the recipient usually needs, whether that is a provider tax number for a childcare claim or gallons on a fuel purchase.

Comparing tools
If you are weighing this up against another free tool, we compared the main ones honestly, including where each of them stops being the right choice: Invoice Generator alternatives.
Other billing documents
Invoices are one part of it. Quotes go out before the work, receipts confirm the money arrived, and credit notes fix an invoice you already sent.

Frequently asked questions
Are these invoice templates really free?
Yes. There is no account, no trial and no paid tier behind them. The PDF has no watermark and there is no cap on how many you create.
Can I edit the template in Word or Excel?
Yes. Alongside the browser version there are Word, Excel and Google Docs layouts for clients who want a file they can change themselves.
Do I need an invoice number?
You should have one. It does not have to be complicated. Sequential numbering such as 2026-001 is enough, and it makes an invoice far easier to chase later.
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No. The templates run in your browser and the PDF is generated on your device. Nothing you type is sent to us.
What is the difference between an invoice and an estimate?
An estimate is a price you are offering before the work starts. An invoice is a request for payment after it is done. Sending the wrong one is a common cause of payment delays.
