Handyman Invoice Template

A handyman invoice usually covers several unrelated small jobs from one visit, so list each task on its own line with its labour and materials rather than lumping them together. Include your minimum charge or trip fee if one applies. Build one free below, no signup or watermark.

Handyman invoice template with a call-out covering the first half hour, hourly labour, hardware and a drywall repair.
Small jobs still need a call-out line, or the hourly rate has to absorb travel.

Handyman work has a billing problem no other trade has: a single visit might involve a leaking tap, two shelves, a sticking door and a light fitting. Four jobs, four sets of parts, one invoice. Clients who see a single line reading “labour 3 hrs, $255” have no way of knowing whether the shelves took twenty minutes or two hours, and that uncertainty is what generates the follow-up email.

What goes on a handyman invoice

Line What it covers
Task list Each job separately, what was done, where in the property
Labour Hours per task, or a fixed price for each job
Materials Parts bought for the job, with quantities
Trip / minimum charge Call-out or the minimum billable amount, if applied
Property & visit date Where the work happened and when
Totals & terms Subtotal, tax if applicable, total and due date

A worked example

A half-day visit covering four unrelated jobs:

  • Replace kitchen tap washer and reseal, 0.75 hr @ $65.00: $48.75
  • Mount two floating shelves, living room, 1.0 hr @ $65.00: $65.00
  • Plane and rehang bedroom door, 0.75 hr @ $65.00: $48.75
  • Replace hallway light fitting, 0.5 hr @ $65.00: $32.50
  • Materials: washers, wall anchors, fitting: $34.20
  • Visit date 12 August · 14 Ashford Road
  • Subtotal $229.20 · tax as applicable · due on receipt

Four tasks, four lines, each with its own time. The client can see where the three hours went, and if they only want to query the door, they can query the door.

What causes handyman billing friction

  • All tasks on one labour line. The most common issue, and the easiest to fix.
  • Minimum charge not explained. If a twenty-minute job billed at a one-hour minimum, say so on the line rather than rounding the time up silently.
  • Materials without receipts on larger buys. For anything substantial, note that receipts are available. It heads off the “did you mark this up” conversation.
  • No property address on rental work. Landlords and letting agents allocate costs per unit and cannot process an invoice without it.

Frequently asked questions

Should I list every small task separately?

Yes. Handyman visits often cover several unrelated jobs, and a single combined labour line gives the customer no way to see where the time went. Separate lines also mean a query about one task does not hold up payment for the whole invoice.

How do I bill a minimum charge?

Show it as its own line, labelled as a minimum or trip charge, rather than inflating the recorded hours. Customers accept minimums when they can see them; they push back when a twenty-minute job silently appears as an hour.

Can I charge for materials I bought on the way?

Yes, and it is standard practice. List them with quantities and note that receipts are available for larger purchases. Transparency on parts is what keeps small-job invoices from feeling arbitrary.
